Minor disruption
This was a very odd week at MMSK. The floor that waas being resurfaced was not complete so all the classes were moved around. The students who met in the common room were clearly more distracted than usual. The lessons were still very productive overall. Transitions took longer, between discussions and between classes. Given an excuse these kids will goof off a bit and be silly, but they are never openly defiant or unwilling. They are interested in learning but sometimes they would rather socialize. Montessori accepts that becoming socially aware is an important part of this stage in their lives.

Your school seems like it would be a neat place to work. Thanks for keeping us updated and I look forward to hearing more about it!
ReplyDeleteEven with as open and free as Montessori appears to be, I think all students need structure and routine. Even the most engaged and applied students can be distracted outside of their "norm."
